Measuring our carbon footprint
We know how much electricity and gas we use (and it’s a lot) but there are many other pieces to the puzzle, such as how our members get to church, how we deal with waste, how we cater at events and many more. We completed the survey at 360°carbon.org to measure where we are now, so we can identify where we need to make change and measure the amount of change we have made. These are the results.
Energy supplies
We are looking at whether we can change to greener energy suppliers who offer more guarantees about and commitment to renewables.
We are also looking at whether we should invest in solar panels.
Recycling
There is already a scheme in place to recycle polythene and we are looking at extending this in conjunction with Natural Weigh and the CRiC centre.
Cleaning products
We are starting to replace cleaning products used in the church with ones which are less environmentally damaging. This is being done as current stocks run out.
Caring for our churchyard
There is much we can do here, but also a conflict between wanting a pristine churchyard and providing an area which encourages wildlife to flourish.
