Eco Church is an award scheme run by A Rocha UK for churches in England and Wales who want to demonstrate that the gospel is good news for God’s earth. The scheme works by measuring performance across a broad spectrum to see how much we as a church are doing to play our part in caring for the environment. The main areas are:
- Worship and teaching
- Management of church buildings
- Management of church land
- Community and global engagement
- Lifestyle
There are three levels of achievement: bronze, silver and gold. We are now at Bronze level.
We’re currently working towards Silver, which isn’t too far off. We are a long way yet from gold, but that is what we are aiming for!
We have a task force, headed by Kerry Andrews, looking at ways we can improve all that we do, but we also want to involve every one of you in our congregations and our community as this is something we need to do together.
On this site you can find out more about what we are doing as a church, and also some of the things you can do at home to reduce the destructive impact we human beings have on the world around us in our everyday activities.
